About Us

Senseis John and Stephanie D’Amico

John and Stephanie believe that karate is more a way of life, not just a sport. They take an individualized approach to their teaching. Karate is a discipline that is achievable for everyone and they pride themselves on getting to know their students and helping them find a lifelong love of martial arts.

BJJ Instructor Ronald Hoffman

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor Ronald Hoffman began his practice in 2016 under the tutelage of Professor Steve Kechan and Coach Tom Maciak. Ron enjoys the opportunity to share his training with kids and adults in the BJJ program.

Ron believes in conditioning and pushing your body to become stronger and learning techniques slowly to learn them correctly. He says you can never overstate the importance of being a good partner while training; “if you hurt your training partner, you have nobody to train with.”

Kobudo Senpai Therese Empie

Therese began studying Yamashita-Matayoshi Kobudo as a child while also learning Shotokan Karate. She loves training at Rooted and sharing her passion for Kobudo with her students. Rooted is proud to have her heading up our Kobudo program.
